Red Mountain Resort : BC

Red is a true hidden gem when it comes to BC interior skiing/riding. The snow is the best you'll find, it is light fluffy champagne powder and it is always deep! There is something really nice about riding a mountain with a lot of great history, friendly locals and such a happy, relaxed vibe (no crazy over-geared under-talented resort snobs here!) Red has some of the best glades I've ever ridden, they are very well maintained and there are so many hidden powder stashes (especially off the Paradise chair). For apres ski cocktails Rafters is the spot to go, it's got a great location at the base of the mountain above the day lodge and serves up good priced local brews. There's nothing quite like riding up the mountainside on the Motherlode Chair and breaking through the clouds into a sunny, snowy paradise. Aptly named the "Paradise Area", this section of Red Mountain is a place you could ride all day long. Grab a smokie off the grill for lunch and sit on the patio enjoying being nestled between the tall snow-laden trees. After enjoying the either of the two amazing out of the way gems of Whitewater or Red Mountain, I always enjoy heading to Ainsworth hot springs, which is far better then your hotel hot tub and just a short way out of town. Ease your sore body deep into the caves to the source of hot water, and when you cant take the heat anymore head to one of my favorite pools; the cold pool and see how long you can take teh freeze. Going to Red Mountain Resort is all about the snow: primo, light deep powder. Residing in the region of the Kootenay's, it is here on the west side windward slope where snow really dumps. Trees become ghostly figures, and any terrain on both faces becomes fair play as rocks and logs are submersed in the holiness of seemingly endless snow.
